AIR_Scav03-01.png

Welcome to the third of six scavenger hunts I will be hosting over the course of my residency with the City of Waterloo. If you don’t know about them yet, check out the intro video here. I’m looking forward to collaborating with you and seeing what you create!

Scavenger Hunt 2 launch date: 27 July 2021 — the deadlines are open so you can submit any of your responses at any time!

Where to submit your work: Online through this form or in person at the Waterloo Visitor Centre.

The Challenge

This week we’re talking about Waterloo as a community — ours is a city of neighbourhoods, connected by an extensive trail network which transports us through the city. What trails do you know in the city? What do you do in your neighbourhood? How do you use our trails? When we think about community, we also think about ideas of home and what roots us to our communities.

This week’s challenge is to create a work about community! Whether that’s about documenting something special in your neighbourhood, thinking about what community means to you, or how the trail network ties us all together, create something visual and send it in!

As an idea to get started, I went out on some of our trails (Laurel, Hillside, Forwell, then Sugarbush Park), looking for textures, shapes and patterns to use in my work. I made a video, which you can watch below. How about getting out on your own choice of trail and seeing what you can find?

If you have questions for me, you can send them to cultureplan@waterloo.ca.

Good luck and happy creating!

— Lucy
